Bronchiectasis Section of the APSR Respiratory Infections (non-tuberculous) Assembly

Bronchiectasis is a specialist Section of the APSR Respiratory Infections (non-tuberculous) Assembly, and led by Dr Daniel James Smith (Australia).

Mission

The Bronchiectasis section aims to promote evidence based clinical practice and advance patient centered research into the diagnosis and management of bronchiectasis in the Asia-Pacific region. We aim the build a network of interested health professionals and laboratory scientists to advance research into the aetiology and management of the complications of bronchiectasis.

Interests

  • Understanding the aetiology and epidemiology of bronchiectasis, including the impact of environmental factors within the Asia-Pacific region
  • Understanding the microbiology of chronic airway infection in bronchiectasis, including optimizing treatment approaches to non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections
  • Promoting research into the prevention of bronchiectasis with a focus on indigenous and other high-risk populations
  • Supporting clinical trials to advance therapeutic options for the management of bronchiectasis
  • Improving access to specialist care
  • Promoting education and training to health professionals to increase their understanding and ability to care for people with bronchiectasis

Who should join

All APSR members who are interested in the field of bronchiectasis and are keen to develop and share knowledge and ideas, build networks, collaborate in research projects and submit topics for the APSR annual Congress Assembly Symposium are strongly encouraged to join. The current lead for the Bronchiectasis Section is Dr Daniel Smith. Please make contact with Dr Smith at anytime if you have ideas to promote knowledge, or advance research into bronchiectasis.

Section membership

Bronchiectasis Section membership is open to all members of the APSR Respiratory Infections (non-tuberculous) Assembly.
A member may join up to two Sections.
