APSR Assembly Heads-Elect and Deputy Heads Call for nominations
The APSR is pleased to announce new openings for APSR Assembly leadership, which present excellent opportunities for networking with members and societies from around the world, and gain experience in APSR educational activities in addition to APSR Congress pursuits.
As you know, each Assembly is led by a troika leadership composed of a Head, Head-Elect and Deputy Head. Each position is held for two years, and vacancies are now open for the upcoming troika leadership.
We invite you to nominate another APSR member for these positions by using the Nomination form linked below.
Selection timeline
- 15 January -16 February 2025: Nomination and Application period
- 26 February -6 March 2025: Voting period (if an election is required)
- March 2025: Announcement of new Heads-Elect and Deputy Heads
Open positions
This list shows the open positions, the Heads and Heads-Elect of Assemblies who will assume their roles after the APSR 2025 Manila and serve until the final day of the APSR 2027 Congress.
The appointee of the Lung Cancer Assembly Head-Elect shall serve as Deputy Head, effective immediately upon approval by the Executive Committee and continuing until the closing of the APSR 2025 Manila.

Note: To ensure each Assembly has leaders from more than one country/region:
*The Deputy Head positions for the Environmental & Occupational Health and Epidemiology Assembly and the Interstitial Lung Disease Assembly, are not open to members from the Republic of Korea.
**The Deputy Head positions for the Critical Care Medicine Assembly and the Respiratory Structure and Function Assembly, are not open to members from Japan.
Term of office
The new Heads-Elect and Deputy Heads will serve for two years, following the close of the APSR 2025 Manila Congress until the final day of the APSR 2027 Congress.
Qualifications and eligibility to become an Assembly Head, Head-Elect and Deputy Head
- Commitment and Availability
Assembly leaders are expected to be committed and available to meet the demands of the position, including participation in the APSR annual Congress, - Leadership Responsibilities
Assembly leaders are expected to:
a. Evaluate abstracts submitted to the APSR annual Congress.
b. Participate in Assembly meetings (on-site or online)
c. Participate in assembly meetings of ATS and ERS at their conferences when invited. - Competence in Initiatives
The nominee should have the competence to develop new initiatives that improve the APSR’s ability to achieve its aims. - Relevant Experience
The nominee will ideally have made, or currently make, an effective contribution to activities of the APSR, such as but not limited to past or current experience in the APSR; for example, member of an APSR activities; for example committee/taskforce membership, Councillor, etc. - English Language Proficiency
The nominee should have competent English language skills. - Membership Requirement
a. The applicant must be an APSR Ordinary member.
b. The nominee is required to be a member of the Assembly by the nomination deadline.
c. Assembly leaders must be Fellows of the APSR(FAPSR) if aged 41 or over. If not already a Fellow, the successful nominee aged 41 or over must become an FAPSR and pay a registration fee of USD100 fee before their appointment. - Residency and Communication
In principle, the nominee should reside in the Asia-Pacific region for effective real-time communication with the Secretariat and other countries in the region. - Role-Specific Restrictions
An Assembly leader may not serve concurrently as a Section Leader. - Conflict of Interest
The nominee should have no conflict of interest which contradicts the APSR Charter and Bylaws; for example, full-time or part-time employment by a pharmaceutical or medical equipment company within the last five years, ownership of shares in companies with interests in respiratory or sleep medicine, or the tobacco industry. - Capability to Support Activities
The nominee should be capable of supporting the work of Assembly activities, APSR Congress, publications and the Secretariat.
Nomination Guide
To nominate another APSR member to apply, download and complete the Nomination form (see link below) and send it to applications@apsr.org by the close of the Nomination and Application period. (See “Selection timeline”, above.)
- Nominations can be made by, and for, any qualifying member. (See “Qualifications and eligibility”, above.)
- Contact the person you have nominated and ask them to complete and submit an Application form and their CV. (See “Application Guide”, below.)
Failure to submit the application form by the close of the Nomination and Application period (See “Selection timeline”, above.) will result in the nomination being invalid. - To view the list members in your Assembly, log in at https://apsr.org/login/ , access your Assembly from the menu item “Participating assembly & section”, and scroll down the page to “Member list & Contact”.
Application Guide
- If you have been nominated and wish to apply, download and complete the Application form (see link below) and send it to applications@apsr.org along with your CV by the close of the Nomination and Application period. (See “Selection timeline”, above.)
- If an election is required (see “Selection Process”, below), your Application form and CV may be viewed by other Assembly members. Therefore, please ensure that your CV does not include any personal information such as your private email address, home address, date of birth, details about family members, etc. The APSR cannot take responsibility if personal data is included.
- Applications can be accepted from any qualifying member. (See “Qualifications and eligibility”, above.)
Selection Process
- If only one suitable candidate with the appropriate qualifications applies, then that person will assume the role upon approval by the Executive Committee.
- If there are two or more suitable applications for the position, an election will take place among the Assembly members to select the best candidate.
- Once applications, and elections (if required), have taken place, the positions will be endorsed by the Executive Committee.
Election Rules
- All APSR Ordinary members who are members of the Assembly on the closing day of the Nomination and Application period (see “Selection timeline”, above) are eligible to vote for their Assembly Head-Elect and/or Deputy Head.
- Eligible members of the Assembly will receive a link by email to cast their ballot anonymously.
- Each voter may vote for only one candidate per position.
- A quorum (minimum number of votes) is set at 50% of the Assembly’s members. If the quorum is not reached by the last day of the election period, the voting period will be extended until quorum is achieved.
- In the event of a tie, the Head of the Assembly will decide the winner.
- As soon as the election results have been endorsed by the Executive Committee, the APSR Secretariat will notify all candidates of the result by email.
