APSR Councillor from APSR individual members Call for nominations

Term of office

Two years from 11 November 2024, the day after the last day of the APSR 2024 Congress until the last day of the APSR Congress 2026

Timeframe

  • 15 September: Close of the Application period
  • 21 September-5 October: Selection
  • October: Announcement of the new Councillor

Eligibility

  • Nominations and applications are open to APSR Individual Ordinary members as on 1 April 2024, who are from a country or region where there is no en bloc member society. Honorary members, Associate members and Undergraduate Student members cannot apply to become a Councillor neither can they nominate a member to become a Councillor.
  • Applicants are required to:
    ・Be nominated and elected by other APSR Individual Ordinary members. Self-nomination is not acceptable.
    ・Be the fellow of the APSR (FAPSR), if an applicant is 41 years old or older in 2025.

Nomination and Application process

  • Any APSR Individual Ordinary member can nominate (an) other APSR Individual Ordinary member(s).
  • A nominator is required to inform the nominee to submit the application form and their latest curriculum vitae no later than 15 September 2024.
  • Applicants submit the application form and their latest curriculum vitae.

Selection process

  • All applications are first checked for eligibility by the Chairperson of the Nomination Committee, the past two APSR presidents in the Nomination Committee, and the Chairperson of the Strategic Planning Committee.
  • Number of eligible applications for the position:
    • >2
      When there are more than two, elections take place by the EXCO Selection
      Committee to select the most suitable two. That Committee comprises;
      ・Chairperson of Nomination Committe
      ・Chairperson of Steering Committe
      ・Chairperson of Strategic Planning Committee
      ・Chairperson of Research Committee
      ・Chairperson of Education Committee
      ・Chairperson of Finance Committee
      ・Chairperson of Membership Committee
      ・Chairperson of Central Congress Committee
      ・Last two Past Presidents
      ・Current APSR Councillors
      If any of the above is an applicant or nominator of an applicant, they are excluded from the EXCO Selection Committee.
      Each voter can vote for only one applicant.

      When there are two, a vote to select the most suitable one will take place by:
      ・Executive Committee members
      ・EXCO Selection Committee members (see above)
      ・Assembly Heads, Heads-Elect and Deputy Heads
      ・Committee members of the open position
      If any of the above is an applicant or nominator of an applicant, they are excluded from the vote.

      When there is only one, that person will assume the role upon approval by the Nomination Committee and the Executive Committee.

      In unlikely event that no applications are eligible, the selection will be made in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • As soon as the new Councillor has been endorsed by the Executive Committee, the APSR Secretariat will notify all applicants of the result by email.
